Just ordered my new PC today, and I'm surprised how cheap it was considering how decent it is. Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon X2 5000+
2GB DD2 800 RAM
200GB Harddrive
Geforce 8800GTS 320MB
600Watt Power supply SLI Capable

All little over $1000.

Should arrive sometime between Sept. 6 to Sept. 14. I'll post benchmarks when it arrives.

I got it at www.cyberpowerpc.com, I was gonna go with building a new PC from scratch like last time. But I'm too lazy to do so, plus I don't have as much free time like I did when I did make it.

EDIT: Ohh yes, I forgot to say what the OS was. I decided to go with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit edition. I was tempted to go with the 64-bit version, but I figured it wouldn't make too big of a difference either way.

just a word of advice...vista had some serious isues with gaming. I struggled with vista for about 6 months before finally dumping it all together. It would not run either ut properly, had odd crshing issues with some steam games. And overall sound was crap with my audigy 2 platinum card, I have since gone back to XP...cant run any of the vista only games which are only microsoft anyways...sooo its no great loss. Just thought i would pass on my experience with it.

Interesting, that's one of a few horror stories I've read about when it came to Vista and gaming. And the first time I've heard UT not running properly on Vista, hearing this does make me feel a tad worried about it (Most issues I've read sound like unfinished driver issues, especially that sound problem. Which is supposedly more apparent on Creative's newer cards.). It's defiantly in it's infancy, but like XP, it will be patched up to be stable and ready for prime time. Though when it will be is debatable.

I'll give it a shot, and if it doesn't suffice, I always got a handy Windows XP Professional install disc at hand. Though I'm hoping it does work ok, because I don't really want to revert to XP.

well...I know personally a dozen people who have had the same problems with vista and UT...like server lists no longer updating...sound problems with all sound cards or on board sound, constant crashes of ut...and my favorite one was it would lock my keyboard in both ut 99 and 2k4, I hope you have better luck than I did.

Vista has issues, we pay extra at work to get xp pro installed on the cad machines. I'm sure all the venders will update there code but right now it's not compatible with Gibbs there is an issue with the reporter in Gibbs.

Old game old os I guess.
I would ask for xp right from the vender unless you don't play old games.

far as ut, xp worked well with it I hope vista can do the same but I don't think so.

From what I have seen on other boards......Vista is a bloated pig!

In all honesty I think the main issues are hardware manufacturer's not re-writing drivers for the Vista OS. Plus many endusers probably don't have systems that meet the higher demands that Vista puts on a computer. In a few years when users replace or re-build their systems and hardware manufacturers update driver / hardware things will be better in Vista land.

Myself I have never had any problems running older games on XP.... even Quake 2 ran with no issues.

They've started to build it as of yesterday, and are also running it through quality control. It's only a matter of time before it's shipped.

Got it yesterday, and I love it! Bioshock runs at max settings with over 80FPS and no hitching whatsoever! Company of Heroes stress test at max settings shows 100fps average including anti-aliasing. I have yet to try UT but I doubt It'll have any issues. I tried out STALKER and, while it ran great at max settings, it crashed three times while I played and I uninstalled it. A small disappointment, since I was loooking forward to playing it when it was released.

Now as far as Windows Vista is concerned, I love it, but it's gonna take some time to get used to. I haven't had any problems with it yet so that's a good sign. Performance is pretty nice so far, but I think I'm gonna turn off the Glass interface because it kinda bothers me. But other than that, I love Vista!

I'll be installing UT and Battlefield 2 when I get the chance and I'll share how that goes. So far I have yet to be dissapointed with this PC, now my main target is UT3 when it comes out.
